Maureen Burke

Founder, Co-owner, Instructor

Maureen Burke brings 20+ years of experience training dogs. Maureen is a teacher by trade and presently teaches 8th grade English at West Oak Lane Charter School. With summers off from her teaching job, Maureen spends her days at High Octane instructing group classes and offering private lessons.

Her first competition dog, Corky, was a mix breed who introduced Maureen to dog training. Maureen’s next dog, Isis, earned her ADCH in USDAA and NATCH4 in NADAC. Isis was her first “distance” dog who could qualify on courses working over 30 feet away from her. Isis grew Maureen’s passion to teach distance skills, which is still one of her popular workshops. ADCH Rhyme, Maureen’s most titled dog, introduced her to the wonderful worlds of: shaping, impulse control, and fitness. Maureen and Rhyme attended their second Cynosport World Games and placed 31 of over 200 teams with their team “Supa Heroes”.

Steel was Maureen’s first smooth coated Border Collie. They were just beginning competition when Steel was diagnosed with Epilepsy and subsequently succumbed to the disease in 2021. High Octane actively fundraises for Canine Epilepsy because of Steel.

Rival’s Dealer is Maureen’s most current dog. At almost 14 months, Dealer already has added S.T.A.R. Puppy and Caning Good Citizenship (CGC) to his name. Maureen and Dealer are working on his agility skills and focusing on conditioning exercises.

In December 2016, Maureen earned her FitPAWS Master Trainer certification! Then in August 2017, she completed her program in fitness from the University of Tennessee and passed her CCFT-Certified Canine Fitness Trainer. Fitness helped improve Rhyme’s jumping, balance, coordination, and relationship with Maureen.

High Octane is both a FitPaws and a Klimb dealer.

Maureen practices and teaches with positive motivation and reward-based instruction.

As a handler, Maureen trains on a regular basis with Mary Ellen Barry, Perry DeWitt, and Judy Reilly. Maureen continues to educate herself through online classes with Bobbie Lyons (Fitness) and by attending seminars and camps.

Maureen is available for off-site seminars and lessons in both agility and canine fitness.
